
Bread
In this region you have to talk not about bread as it is, but about bread gastronomy. From flour, which is prepared in a special way here, Sicilians cook various, flavored and tasty dishes. This variety could only be explained by fantasy of the pauper, who has no money for any other food except bread.
To ordinary traditional bread lots of spices and flavourings are added to make it more tasty. Sometimes instead of baking they fry it; make it in a different shape if it's specially cooked for a party, sometimes they even swear on bread. Anyway, bread is a very important product for Sicilian Cuisine, without it the table would be "reach".
Greengrocery and vegetables
Greengrocery and vegetables were always the most important products in the Sicilian menu. Because of its taste and aroma they played an important role at every table - reach or poor. Green beans, pease with egg; eggplant with parmesan; casselrole with artichokes; dishes with lentil; turkish pease or bean, countless sorts of wild greengrocery - Sicilians ate it, cooked it, dreamed about it. That was always popular.
